Kate Bassett

Kate joined Gilshenan & Luton in 2025 and practices in the areas of employment law, administrative law, occupational disciplinary law, and professional misconduct law. Kate also has experience representing clients in criminal law, child protection, and domestic violence proceedings.

Kate was admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland in June 2023. Prior to joining Gilshenan & Luton, she was an Associate to a Judge of the District Court of Queensland. During her time as an Associate, Kate developed a thorough understanding of court proceedings for civil, criminal and appellate matters, including various types of applications and hearings.

Before she commenced her Associateship, Kate worked in a law firm which specialised primarily in criminal defence for almost five years. She worked as a law clerk and then paralegal and commenced work as a solicitor following her admission. During this time, she both appeared and instructed in Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts across Queensland, as well as the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Kate enjoys assisting clients with all aspects of their matters and continues to regularly assist clients with disciplinary and regulatory matters involving different professional and regulatory bodies such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (‘AHPRA’), Legal Services Commission and Blue Card Services.

Outside of work, Kate enjoys visiting the beach, spending time with her family and dog Holly, and supporting the Brisbane Broncos.
